This year’s event, the organizors focused on a significant era for the history of the Palestinian cinema, which is the revolutionary cinema that was created by the ”The Palestinian Libration Organization” in Jordan also, Lebanon in the late sixties in addition, continued until the eighties.
Many western and Arab filmmakers worked in the Palestinian revolutionary cinema and among those the Iraqi writer and filmmaker Kassem Hawal, the director of the feature film ”Returning to Haifa” which is often cited as “the first Palestinian fiction film, based on a novel, written by the Palestinian writer Ghassan Kanafani, produced in 1983 and funded entirely with Palestinian money (collected by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine). And the film will be played in the closing night.
The films that partake in the event were carefully selected to suit the resulted cultural diversity of the Palestinian diasporas, they also reflect the Palestinian Cinema in all its stages. Consequently the films selection varies between films directed by Arabian filmmakers, films made by Palestinian directors in Gaza and West bank, As well as films made by Palestinian filmmakers in the diaspora. Aiming to portray the cultural richness and diversity in Palestinian cinema, which rose from the occupation with all the hardships, and managed to be a guardian of the Palestinian memories.
