Join us for an evening of Palestinian cinema and conversation! We’ll be screening Upshot and A State of Passion, followed by a talk with Mariam Barghouti — Palestinian journalist, writer, and researcher from Ramallah — where we will honour the collective reflection on resistance, memory, and the role of storytelling in shaping our existence.
About Upshot
After suffering unimaginable loss, Suleiman and Lubna retreat to an isolated farm where they tend to their crops and engage in impassioned debates about their children’s choices — until one day a stranger arrives to reveal a harrowing truth.
About A State of Passion
A feature-length documentary by Carol Mansour and Muna Khalidi following Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, a British-Palestinian reconstructive surgeon who spent 43 days under relentless bombardment working in Gaza’s hospitals. Through his story — and that of his family and the filmmakers — the film explores shared strength, love, and an unshakable devotion to Palestine, a collective state of passion that drives their humanitarian work and storytelling.
About Mariam Barghouti
Mariam Barghouti is a Palestinian writer, journalist and researcher from the occupied West Bank, Ramallah. She covers news from all over the West Bank and has been a voice for the palestinians on Channels such as Al-Jazeera English, New York Times, The Guardian, Wasington Post, BBC, Middle East Eye and Al-Shabaka. Mariam will join us in a conversation where we honour the collective reflection on the ongoing resistance, memory, and the role of storytelling in shaping our existence.
